Volunteers required each week

February 18th, 2008 Webmistress

Track VolunteersVolunteer of the year

The following volunteer positions must be filled before racing can commence. Here is a brief description of the duties of each position.

Commentator

The commentator stands in the “Tower of Keable” and calls the racing action on the track. This is not the easiest of jobs but anyone is welcome to “have a go” and be assured that any person who tries is infinitely better than anyone who doesn’t try.

Flags

The primary role of the flag person is to ensure the safety of riders and spectators during the event and to detect interference and foul riding and report any infractions to the Race Commissaire. The flags have the following meanings:

  • Green Flag - The course is unobstructed and racing can proceed.
  • Yellow Flag – The course is obstructed and racers should be held at the gate.
  • Red Flag - Riders on the track should stop immediately and return to the starting gate to await further instructions.

Lights

Duties similar to the flag person described above. Controls the lights via a remote switch and switches between red and green.

Staging Officials

Direct all competitors to their respective position on the starting line.

Starter

This is the official who starts all races. Starting hill officials have the authority to refuse a start to any rider whose safety equipment does not conform to the BMX Rules.

Lines

These officials determine the finishing order of a race. The official finish positions of each race is determined by a simple majority of the finish line officials. On club racing nights at Cairns we need a minimum of three people at a time.

The Canteen

The Canteen is a major fundraiser for the club and needs everyones help. The coordinators are stepping down this year after 4 years and organising FNQ, Qld and Australian events, they need a rest and would like to try something else around the track.

Please see Sharon Geck (in the Canteen) if you would like to know more about being the Organiser, buying the food, arranging a roster. This could be done by three different people – you know many hands make light work.

We have 2 months left after the State Championships so this would be a good time to be shown what is required to be able to start the new year organised. PLEASE HELP.”

Please see Sharon Geck (in the Canteen) about where you can help.
